Sustainability
Up to 70% greener than overlaying.
Road recycling is the most sustainable way to rebuild Ireland's roads — because the materials are already there. We just reuse them.
Proven Carbon Savings Through Road Recycling
70.78% carbon emissions reduction achieved on a South Donegal road recycling project.
On a recent Donegal County Council road recycling project, Roadteam's in-situ road recycling method was assessed against a traditional overlay method using imported Clause 804 material. The assessment showed a 70.78% reduction in carbon emissions by reusing and processing the existing road material in place.
Achieved on this project. Results vary by location, materials, haulage, depth and finish.
vs. traditional overlay baseline
On this project alone
Crushed & reused in place
The traditional overlaying approach is slow, expensive and carbon-heavy. Recycling does the same job.

Tonnes CO₂ — lower is better.

Our environmental impact
Less in. Less out. A road that lasts.
Every job we run is measured against the same standard: how much imported material did we avoid by recycling the existing road in place?
Lower emissions
Fewer truck movements and on-site reuse mean a fraction of the carbon of overlaying.
Less haulage
Imported stone deliveries cut by up to 80% on a typical job.
Reused material
The existing road becomes the new base — fully reused in place.
Zero waste off site
All existing road materials are recycled and reused in place.
Lower energy
Single-pass on-site recycling uses far less fuel than producing & importing new stone.
Better for surrounding land
Reduced site traffic and disturbance protects verges, hedgerows and water.
Recycling, not replacing.
Traditional road rebuilds rely on quarried stone trucked to site. Every kilometre of that journey burns fuel and adds carbon. Our process eliminates almost all of it.
The existing road material is broken up, crushed and recompacted in place — becoming the new base for the rebuilt road. All existing materials are recycled and reused on site.
Per kilometre, typical
- Imported aggregate
- ~90% - 100% less
- Truck movements
- ~90% - 100% fewer
- Material taken off site
- Zero
- Project duration
- ~50% shorter
- CO₂ emissions
- ~70% lower
Indicative — exact savings depend on site, depth and finish required.
